BAER & EDINGTON LLC

The Firm of the Future

The entire staff at BAER & EDINGTON LLC takes an active interest in improving the communities where we live and work. That's why we enthusiastically support and sponsor events and activities that are important to our staff members and clients, such as:

  • FIVE MILE RUN, WALK OR CRAWL
  • ANNUAL POLAR BEAR PLUNGE IN FEBRUARY FOR SPECIAL OLYMPICS
  • SLOW PITCH SOFTBALL LEAGUE
  • CHAMBER OF COMMERCE BUSINESS AFTER HOURS
  • CHANGING THE ODDS (A WOMEN'S NETWORK)

Time for a new tradition!  Baer & Edington hosted a "Five Mile Run, Walk, or Crawl" event on September 18, 2009 at the Shawnee Complex.  Hopefully this will be an annual event.  This event was meant to be fun and laid back so participants of all experience levels were welcome.  The purpose of this event was to get to know our clients a little better, get some exercise, and raise money for Special Olympics.  Our motto for the event was "Accountants Appreciate a Good Figure".  We raised a total of $800 for Special Olympics.

 Softball

As a firm, we are participating in a recreational softball league this fall. We will be playing in a coed league this fall at Shawnee Sports Complex. Games will be on Mondays or Wednesdays beginning Monday September 14th. The league lasts about 5 weeks and we should be playing double headers once a week. Our team is made up of members of our staff as well as friends and family members. Come out and watch us play sometime. For game days and times, or if you have any other questions, contact Jill Zoellner at the office.

Baer & Edington Partner Shares Wisdom with Columbia Women

Cheryl Edington,  partner of Baer & Edington LLC, believes we all possess the power to change lives – one at a time. Cheryl is actively involved in a Women’s Network committee dedicated to assisting women who are transitioning to or re-entering the workforce.

The Changing the Odds committee assists women who are looking for ways to improve their job prospects and includes women from all walks of life. Some participants have never held a job whereas others may have left the job market for a period of time or have had recent changes in their career goals. Changing the Odds holds two free programs each year, emphasizing job-related topics such as searching for employment opportunities, completing a job application, creating a winning résumé, and preparing for and participating in job interviews. The programs even touch on personal issues as they relate to the workforce, such as overcoming personal obstacles, conflict resolution, and learning about workforce expectations related to regulations and laws. Guest speakers often include human resource directors, attorneys, motivational speakers, managers, and business owners.

The first program of 2010 was held on April 24 at the Missouri Career Center and had 26 eager participants. Several notable women shared with the 26 lucky ladies those job-related skills and values most important to landing their next position. This hands-on event included Cheryl’s informative interviewing lesson as well as an interactive interview skit that brought howls of laughter from the audience.

One participant recently contacted Cheryl to follow up on that important day in her life: "I was working overnights at [fast food restaurant] and was extremely unhappy there. Well, about a month later, I landed an interview for a very excellent job, in which I am now working! With all of you ladies’ help, I was confident in my interview, and am already being considered for a raise because of my attention to detail and organization skills. Did I mention I have only been here for one week! You ladies taught me so many important tips and values in the seminar that I took with me and held onto for dear life. I wanted to thank you so much! This job is already amazing…."

Great job, Cheryl! Everyone at Baer & Edington is proud of your involvement and commitment to our community. Together we can all change the odds.
